Marumi Uv Filter
- UV filters are individual compounds or mixtures to prevent ultraviolet (UV) light from coming through. UV filters are used in sunscreens to protect skin or in photography to reduce haziness or fogginess created by ultraviolet light.
- This coating is a filter for the harmful UV radiation. The coating is either put on the lens or is imbedded into the lens to protect your eyes for the harmful effect of the sun’s UV radiation.
- This is an Ultra Violet absorbing filter that helps overcome the abundance of blue in outdoor photographs. Not really necessary in digital photography as the camera's white balance system adjusts for the colour temperature of the scene.
- shrub bearing round-fruited kumquats
- Marumi is a settlement in Kenya's Central Province.

Focus shift test 48mm f/4.2 (IS PRO)
Focus shift and depth of field test for a Nikon 28-80mm 1:3.3-5.6 G set to 48mm f/4.2 on an IS PRO. Focus locked throughout all exposures.
The tape measure was at an angle to the camera. The 18" mark was about 20 inches from the lens.
The Marumi UV-IR cut filter was used to focus the lens in visible light and provide a visible reference.
As expected, the focal point shifted away from the camera as the wavelength increased. It's also interesting to note how the depth of field increases quite substantially at longer wavelengths.
UV illumination was provided by a no-name LED torch. I was surprised to see that the UV focal point shifted away from the camera. I would have expected it to shift closer.
This sequence took quite a long time to shoot, requiring several bracketing shots for proper exposure. Due to poor available light, the UV shot is a composite - the red and blue channels were taken from different exposures (10s and 20s) because the blue channel blows out before the other channels register much when I use my LED torch.
